Overview
The Marine Biosystems Research Center is located at Kominato, and has a branch at Choshi. This center was established in 1999 to
study time-dependent changes in marine biosystems
. In order to investigate marine biosystems
, paleobiosystems, and to model the
systems,
three laboratories have been established: the Marine Biosystems
Laboratory,
the Marine Paleobiosystems Laboratory, and
the
Marine Biosystems Modeling Laboratory. The Center is also used for
educational
purposes. The Center at Kominato has been
set
up as a marine reserve, so we can study marine environments largely
undisturbed
by human interference.
Marine
Biosystems Research Division
This research division researches marine biosystems
in the present marine environments. The object is to study
time-dependent changes in biological communities and their surrounding
environments, and the interactive relationships between the two.

Marine Paleobiosystem Research
Division (Moved to

In this research division, the geological history of marine biosystems and the tectonic activity in the
past and future are
studied. Changes in biological communities and environments in
geological
time scales are investigated from fossils and other geological
evidence.
Studies of crustal activity monitoring
with
use of electromagnetic approach and estimation of underground structure
are
also in action.
