Matanuska Glacier
Chugach Mountains, Alaska, USA

Matanuska Glacier is one of the popular glaciers for turist and located about 100 km east from Anchrage. The glacier flow from a summit of the Chugach Mountains to 50 km south. I visited this glacier September, 2000.

The surface of the glacier is very clean blue ice. Some cryoconite holes can be found on the surface. Depth is about 12 cm. Snow algae are very small, but some common species in Alaska can be found on the surface. No iceworm but some collembora are living on the glacier.
